Turnbull push for a republic a political death wish mp says he didn’t know what he did was wrong
Senator Malcolm Roberts believes that the Liberal-National government in government and the Prime Minister’s office had a “political death wish” to turn Australia into a republic after being forced by the Rudd government to drop their opposition to a united Australia in 2007.
In a speech delivered in Parliament on Sunday, Senator Roberts said the issue of sovereignty was one he had “not really felt much about” for years.
“We lost our independence back then. We now lose our identity and we lose our integrity as a nation as well,” he said.

“The republic is just not the same thing.”
Senator Roberts said people might think of Canada as the “real” Australian country because it still우리 카지노 held a large chunk of the Pacific country, although it had been taken over by American troops with military backing since 2002.
Mr Abbott said Senator Roberts and Prime Minister Tony Abbott had been “talk보성출장마사지ing like they were playing chicken” over whether a republic was a “good idea” in 2011.
“He’s got no idea what he thinks about democracy in Australia and a strong national identity,” Mr Abbott said.
“He’s lost all confidence in the way he’s been dealt with by people in the government.”
He said it was “not right” for politicians in power to “hold back the truth” about the issues facing the country to distract from their own failings.
The government’s chief of staff Martin Parkinson was forced to resign last year after being filmed talking about how Australia should “leave it to the men”.
In his speech on Sunday, Senator Roberts urged the Coalition to support a republic with a strong national identity in the long-term.
“In the long run, we can use a strong, independent and united Australia,” he said.
“We’ll take time to think about and work with the people of Australia and we might not always get that, but then again we might get it.
“In the meantime, we should remember the times when Australia was a strong, independent country, not a weak, disunited country.”
But Mr Abbott said it was “too early” to consider a republic with “no chance to do anything”.
“No nation can be ruled by one person.”
