No Room for MOTION: Germany’s Forgotten Dance Pioneers
an essay by Kathrin Pollow

‘No Room for MOTION: Germany’s Forgotten Dance Pioneers MOTION Berlin’ was a research assignement of the ‘The Live Legacy Project: correspondences between German Contemporary Dance and Judson Dance Theater Movement’.
Kathrin Pollow, an historian who was invited by Angel Guerreiro to be the project research collaborator. Even if dance is not her field she took on the proposal and visited German dance archives throughout Summer 2013. Her task was to search for the Judson legacy in Germany and the correspondences this project aimed to trace. Her research revealed what we consider the beginning of this project within a historical context. The Group Motion Berlin, the first independent and collaboration dance group initiated by Hellmut Gottschild, Inga Sehnert and Brigitta Herrmann.
